The Sloatsburg Public Library Board of Trustees meets the 4th Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm. Meetings are open to the public.

From modest beginnings…

The Sloatsburg Public Library dates its origin to 1959 when a committee of six, appointed by mayor John McAlevey, accumulated 6,000 used books and shelved them in the meeting room of the Village Office. Susanne Dowler, longtime resident of Sloatsburg and a teacher in the Ramapo School District, was the library’s co-founder and first Director.

Part of the Ramapo Catskill Library System cooperative, the library now has a total floor space of some 5,500 sq. ft., and is open 62 hours a week, including Sundays. The Community Room hosts events. The Children's Room is home to weekly activities that help promote early childhood learning. The original 6,000 volumes have expanded to over 28,000. The library also has 3,000 non-book items such as DVDs, magazines, CDs and books on CD. As the community has grown, so has the library.

…to what we are today

The library is a vital community resource that provides a wide range of programs and activities to residents. Our monthly programs and ongoing clubs for adults and children offer opportunities to learn, exchange information and become a part of the community.

We’ve got the resources you need

Need to enhance your job skills? Need to prepare to take the SAT? Want to download some music? Get a magazine online? You’ve come to the right place! Our resources take you to a world of opportunities. Library membership comes with much more than the opportunity to check out a book. The digital resources we give you access to are a complete learning suite.

Other library services available include:

Fax & copy (color and b&w)
Internet/Wifi

We provide a real value and we can prove it!

One of our priorities is to provide services and materials to school kids that have been lost due to recent school budget cuts. From homework help to story time and educational activities, we provide a real service to our younger patrons! We're excited about the many changes that have taken place over the past year and we want to share them with you. Come take a look, and see what your Library is doing for you! Use the calculator at right to determine your library usage and what that use would cost if you had to pay for these items. We think you'll agree that your community library is a great value! Entertainment, knowledge and sheer fun are an integral part of what we offer, but we also want you to think of the Library as one of the most important places to get the facts that you need to make life better. Last year's programs and resources were crafted to offer just that type of material to our patrons. We welcome your input and your ideas. Help us be the best we can be! If you are a parent or student interested in sitting down with Sloatsburg Library staff to learn about new online resources, just call the front desk at 845-753-2001.

We'd like to thank our patrons and the Friends for the continuing support.

You’ll also see and hear the Library undergoing improvements this year as we renovate and create new space in our main steeple room. There will be patching and plaster repair and painting, as well as an uncovering of our original wood floors.
